Horrors of Haalasholm
The Coral Knights are a long established order of pirates who ambush ships along the coasts of the Haalasholm continents. Named for their impossibly skilful navigation of coastal reefs, which they use to their advantage against common traders, who generally try to avoid reefs or only have one or two safe routes marked out on charts.
Coral Knights have a surprisingly detailed set of traditions and rules regarding conduct, advancement and honour, and consequently act more like naval officers than pirates. Coral Knight ships run the gamut but all have one thing in common. They are captured. One of the more well known of the Knight’s odd rules is that none may captain a ship they bought. They must either inherit it from the old captain, or have it bequeathed to them by their captain upon capture of the vessel. Coral Knights maintain a presence in port towns, keeping a vested interest in banking and a smattering of local businesses.
Despite their rules they are quite a lively bunch, indeed many of their rules involve the etiquette of drinking. To great excess. They tend to fork over for personnel armament and heavily customize their ships, the result of another rule which states they cannot take a new ship for themselves unless their old one is destroyed, meaning they tend become pretty attached to the one.
